Drug Store Finds

I really don’t use many products from the drug store.  When I say drug store I mean stores like Wal-mart, CVS, Walgreens, Target.  They sell brands like Clean & Clear, Clearasil, Neutrogena, etc.  These are the brands people tend to gravitate towards mainly because of price and they’re easy to get.

My motto is you get what you pay for…..most of the time.  A lot of drug store brands don’t have a lot of active ingredients that will help treat skin.  A lot of the brands advertise to help with anti-aging or acne but once you read the ingredients the amount of the most important ingredients is very slim.

I do have a couple of products that I love from the drug store.  The main 2 are Noxzema Anti-Blemish Pads and Nadinola’s Fade Cream.

Noxzema’s Anti-Blemish Pads

These things are amazing at removing excess dirt from the face.  After you cleanse your face there is still dirt and bacteria left that the cleanser didn’t get.  Using these pads helps to get that excess dirt.  Salicylic acid helps treat and prevent blemishes which makes it good for oily, combination oily, and acne prone skin.  anti_blemish_pads768x8681

Anyone who has ever used Noxzema products know that they tingle.  These pads do pack a punch but it’s not bad and it’s worth it.  They have menthol and eucalyptus oil  which help to soothe and heal existing blemishes.  Salicylic acid helps with preventing blemishes.

Nadinola Fade Cream

I’m sure you’ve passed by this product and may not have paid it any attention.  It’s a product that’s been around for quite a while and it’s super inexpensive.  I just purchased another jar at Wal-mart and it was $5.18, random price, but still good right!  They do have different formulas but I use the extra strength because has 3% hydroquinone. That is awesome because most over the counter skin care products have 2%.  Any product that has more than 3% requires a prescription.

You would use this before you put on your moisturizer.  The packaging says this product has sunscreen, but it doesn’t say how much SPF; that’s the only thing I don’t like.  Since it does have sunscreen I only use it in the morning.  It is safe to use every day but remember you should discontinue use for a while.  So you can use it for a couple of months, then stop using it for a month.  And you can repeat.  For information on why see my previous post by clicking: Pay Attention: Ingredients!

Some people think that since it’s a fade cream you put it only on the dark spot.  NO!!!!  Apply all over the face.  This product basically attacks the extra melanin so it only lightens the places that need to be lightened.  If you were to apply it only to the dark area eventually you would get a “halo” effect which would create a lighter area around where the dark spot was.  That just creates a whole other issue.

Let me know if you guys have tried any of these products!

And…..I’m thinking about testing out products and giving my opinion.  Would you rather see more drugstore/affordable products?  Or does it matter?  Let me know what you think in the comments section. I want to make sure I’m writing about stuff you want to know about.

And I’m always open for suggestions so let me know if there’s a specific topic you want me to write about.
