Tip Tuesday – What NOT to use as a moisturizer

So we all have products that our mothers or grandmothers put on our face that was NOT in any way beneficial.  The one I remember the most is none other than Vaseline. vaseline My mother would slather this stuff all over my face every morning.  I felt like I was suffocating.  And she still uses it to this day no matter how many times I tell her it’s not good for the skin on her face.  Great for feet, elbows, and knees, but face….No.  I’m so traumatized I don’t even keep any of this stuff in my house.  I hate it.  I will say that it’s good at healing wounds like cuts, scrapes, and burns.  It’s still banned from my house though.  LOL.

There are so many other products that people use as moisturizers on a daily basis that is clogging pores and causing breakouts and blackheads.  So if you’re using anything on this list and have skin issues you may want to take heed to my Vaseline philosophy.

Here are 5 of the worse ingredients for your skin:

Coco Butter

Just like Vaseline, it’s great for certain parts of the body, but not the face.  It clogs pores. Despite what your grandmother tells you it doesn’t heal everything.

Olive Oil & Peanut Oil

Great to cook with….leave it at that.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil smells good, makes a great hair moisturizer but should be kept away as a facial moisturizer.  It makes a good makeup remover for getting rid of waterproof makeup.  But if used as a makeup remover you should cleanse right after.

Mineral Oil also known as Vaseline also known as Petroleum

See first paragraph….

What has your mother scarred you against using or wearing?
